The Winter Garden Collective became a popular place for people to find unique, handmade gifts. Unfortunately, they closed their physical location on Dillard Street on May 3.

The store had been open for 18 months and served as a place for local female crafters to sell their items. Business owners Kathy Ogg and Shanny Rios noted a chief reason for the closing is the lack of foot traffic.

The owners originally targeted the space to run their own businesses and used it as a bonus for the Winter Garden Collective storefront. They made no money off the store, but saw it as a way to support local women looking for a place to make a name for themselves.

Their promotion efforts will continue through the Winter Garden Collective Facebook page. They are hoping people will continue to seek out the 20-plus artisans they showcased.

In addition to the Winter Garden Collective, two other area businesses announced recent closures: Let’s Skate at 14207 W. Colonial Drive and Harry and Larry’s BBQ at 54 Plant St. Each business had been open at least nine years.
