Major road improvements are on the way in Winter Garden. The Winter Garden City Commission approved a piggyback contract with the Middlesex Corporation to bring about 14 different street resurfacing projects.
The contract totals over $1.8 million and it follows another Orange County contract that employs Middlesex at a similar price. The asphalt-paving began on February 11 and it will take place in three sessions over the next two months.
The second project was started on February 18 and the third runs from March 18-22. Those dates will hold up according to Winter Garden Assistant City Manager Jon Williams unless weather conditions get in the way.
Roadways being worked on include Stoneybrook Parkway, Story Road, Plant Street, Avalon Road, Palmetto Street, East Cypress Street, Florida Avenue, Newell Street, South Lakeview Avenue, Division Street and North Highland Avenue. While under construction, some lanes will close, but these streets will stay open to local traffic.
